what is salt?
SALT is...
an open mic night/cafe gathering run by a group of people with a few things in common... we are mostly musicians and creative types, live around the Gloucester Road area, and belong to Bristol Vineyard or Christchurch Clifton.
Salt happens on the third Sunday of the month, starting at 8pm, at Halo Bar & Restaurant on Gloucester Road.
Halo is a friendly bar with superb food and cocktails and a laid-back feel. It's been our home since March 2006 when we moved down the road from Café Bar Unlimited. Here's a mini-map to help you find it!
Sit back and enjoy the cafe atmosphere, find a quiet corner or sit up front and listen to whoever is playing -- you'll often be surprised at the quality of local talent. Our approach to Open Mic means that we don't have a sign-up sheet, a running order or a song limit for performers. We'd rather let our guests feel free to share, & together conjure up the creative dish of the day.
So if you're a singer, songwriter, musician, poet or storyteller: come and add to the mix. You're most welcome.
Also - if you like, you can borrow an instrument. We're happy to lend you our guitar, percussion or keyboard on the night.
Salt is where paths can cross and stories can be told; where people can meet new people or hear new music, cool poetry and find stuff in common. It has been running since 2001: first at the Lansdown in Clifton, then at the (sadly closed) Cafe Bar Unlimited, and now at Halo. It's a melting pot - and it's always great fun.
